Sarah Palin and Barack Obama Both Sign "I Love You" in ASL

At a rally, the Democratic presidential nominee signs "I love you" with an interpreter.

Meanwhile, at another rally - the Republican Vice-Presidential nominee signs "I Love You" with her children looking on.

This is the perfect example why deaf people should actively participate within BOTH parties. I highly urge you to follow your personal beliefs, values, and political leanings and go to the party that best represents them.

Why does it matter for the deaf people to participate in BOTH parties? Wouldn't a specific party respond to and serve the deaf community better? The truth is that if a high majority of the deaf community chooses to concentrate on one party, then the community will lose allies with the other party. The other party would be less educated about the deaf community, deaf issues, and less inclined to support the deaf community on important bills that impact us such as the online video captioning bill.

Partisanship hurts. Partisanship is NOT the goal, especially with deaf political participation.

If BOTH parties are well educated by a high percentage of deaf participation, then the deaf community wins both ways. Through my experience so far, I've learned that allies are a valuable thing to hold on. You can win allies with House Represenatives, Senators, the Cabinet, the Democratic/Republican National Committees, and even the President's Office. All it takes is a bit of effort on your part.

Excellent post. The important thing is for everyone to get out and vote!

McCain used to serve on the Gallaudet Board of Directors; yet, I have not seen him with a SIGN LANGUAGE interpreter in his campaign for the last 17 months.

As a spectator I think they would say or do anything to get a vote ! Most do not continue with these t I thought the AMericans were the kings of media savvy ? but they fall for this every time don't they ?

Are either of these dubious people going to learn ASL properly and visit deaf communities and talk to them, or is the same old story again ?

As a mere Brit (And still annoyed you kicked us out lol), I find American politics pretty horrific in the way they are run. Freedom, anyone can be president, the american dream thing, how many of you with less than a few thousand dollars in their account, have a hope in hell ? No doubt someone here can tell me how much the Bill is for campaigning for president ? then still convince me anyone can be...

I find this on par with Great Britain in the 1830s, where only power and money and influence makes the running, and the poor old voter is always secondary. Politicians would rather vote themselves in and leave us all out of it...

Is valid to measure a politician by the ILY sign? Looking at the very storied history of the ILY sign and overused, token expressions we need to realize we have many people in and out of politics who are CORRUPTED. And, they do use the ILY sign and other token expressions. Some of you people drink too much Kool-Aid.

What if it's not "I love you" but it could be "I like you" or "I lick ya"? Ooo.. maybe it's "I lying ya!"

Dear Poweron

Yes it is REALLY a ILY sign. Do a little research before you post it up!

Yes,
why can't we have more reasonable posts like this one. Seems that so many of the blogs are either completely on the left or completely on the right. It is refreshing to see your point about having all points included and represented. No one party has the answer.

good on ya!!
